What is it like living in a western consumer society? One day I 'll write about it, but for now here is a glossay of some of the jargon

Glossary of words and phrases and their meaning.

Eastenders TV programIntroduction for new actors making a break into UK television. Of a high turnover rate, they usually play the part of a long lost relative of one of the core characters, that noone knew about beforehand until just before they arrived. Similar in format as Austrailian soaps in the dramitisation of developed character personalities over-reacting to situations and to oneanother. As the core characters are highly developed, the actors are bound by contract not to appear on other TV programs. Some characters are have a legacy from previous exposure, hence the program's nickname in some quarters as being "Carry-On Up the East End".
Smoke alarmA ceiling or wall mounted device which indicates by means of loud noise that your toast/bacon/egg/other is burning and won't stop until you remove the battery. No sound is heard if you have a fire in the house, as the battery is still missing since cooking breakfast.
35mm focus freeA camera which cannot be focused. All pictures taken are slightly blurred depending how far different from the lens' fixed focal distance the subject is.
35mm auto focusA camera which can automatically select one of 2 (more on expensive cameras) preset fixed focal lengths by means of a proximity sensing device incorporated.
The latest computer game / latest software / magazine cover disksomething you slot into your CDROM drive to make one or more of the components your machine become obsolete or even unusable. Commercial software is commonly written in high level languages such as visual basic or using the software houses' own compiler/etc, this ensures that nearly ALL of the computer's available resources are used up doing apparently simple tasks (makes the software cheaper to write) . New software often offers support for older components at reduced performance, but only for marketing reasons. Is a multi-million dollar industry and earns governments a great deal of tax revenue.
New formulaA product has one or more ingredients changed/ommitted because it's slightly cheaper to make.
New Improved formulaA product has one or more ingredients changed/ommitted for an imrovement somewhere but not neccesarily of benefit to the consumer. It's also often cheaper to make.
NEW! / FREEThese are words which help sell a product you might not of wanted in the first place.
Advertisment A short presentation of visual imagery and/or sound sound stimulus intended to mislead a Consumer into believing a particular product is better than others similar. The effectiveness is the process is increased because of the Consumer's natural positive attitude, which is why they are often associated with entertainment. A television advert has a soundtrack with highly compressed sound. Digital compression of 80 decibels can be easily compressed into the sound level heard in the room even at a low sound level. Adverts are as effective in influencing buying habits as television violence is as effecting violent crime. Entire broadcasting organisations are funded by producing shifts in buying habits influenced by adverts.
Supermarket savings card i.e. Clubcard, ABC card, Spend and Save card, Reward Card In exchange for money off purchases, all of your personal details and buying habits are made available on a secure database, the information is sold (i.e. to advertisers, so they can instantly see the effectiveness of last night's advert) The card holder must provide a valid address on their details as this is the only way to receive the reward.
Millenium Bug / Y2K bug / An imaginary defect occurring in any electrical device manufactured on or before December 31st 1999, which can even have the potential of starting global thermonuclear war. It is perpetuated by mass hysteria, especially amongst consumers, believing that technology designers have not the common sense to roll forward a Real-Time-Clock (RTC) to test it. It is is used to stimulate commerce and economic growth by creating strong technological obsolesence.
Cleaning Product Disinfectants, Anti-Bacterial, etc. These are used to decrease the exposure of the adaptive bodily immune system to commonly occurring bacterias and viruses ('germs'). These are also used to selectively produce strains of organisms (such as e colii) which become increasingly resistant.
'Fresh' The experience of smelling perfume added to a typical cleaning product in association with use. The more often product is consumed, the 'fresher'.
Mobile Phone A small hand-held device used to extract regular payments of money from a Consumer. Also used as a social Status Symbol and to acquire brain cancer.
Personal Computer An electrically powered metal box with a number of gadgets plugged into it which you stare at for extended periods of time. It contains specially designed features that become obsolete rapidly, sometimes before you even get it home from the shop. See also : Television
M25This is a specially constructed road which does not actually go anywhere but attracts vehicular traffic attempting to go somewhere. It is also reverts to a large circular car park.
Nuclear Power StationUsed to manufacture fuel for nuclear weapons (Nuclear Power). Waste heat produced is used to generate a small quantity of electricity for political reasons.
Television This is a piece of equipment used by the subject to waste spare time. It is used to present Adverts and in general to influence and condition individal thinking and opinions. This device cannot be used to present undramitised balanced data for the invdividual to make informed decisions. "It's not good television"
CarThis is a large complex industry used to combine hydro-carbon fuels with atmospheric oxygen to make mainly carbon dioxide and water in order to increase the effect of global warming. In addition, large amounts of Cars themselves (shaped coloured mirror like objects you sit inside) are mass manuafactured which itself also is used to do the same.
Industrial Growth The rapid consuption of earth resourses, mainly non-renewable. Used to increase Global Warming
Money This is a mass-manufactured product with no actual real value. It is used to regulate consumption of resources by the Consumer by a very small number of Consumers with special privileges.
Consumer. A programmable device to operate the various hardware used to consume earth resources.
NewspaperA visual stimulus used to modify the opinions of the reader, often consciously, certain types of 'paper are bought by certain types of person, so as to maintain their particular political indoctrination.
